Hyper Burst by Yggdrasil takes us to the Ring of Fire, the volcanic region that circles the Pacific and includes many of the Melanesian, Micronesian and Polynesian islands. As you can imagine, the theme is volcanos and tribal magic.

Visually Hyper Burst is impressive and helps set the game apart from others with a similar theme, such as Savage Jungle by Playtech. The background is a sunset view over smoking mountains, and the reels pour lava on occasion. A thumping soundtrack of tribal drums adds to the atmosphere of mystery and suspense. 

The game features a 6×4 grid which has 25 fixed paylines. The min bet is a mere 0.10, making it an excellent choice for players on a budget, but bet levels can be adjusted up to a maximum of 100.00 to attract the high rollers.

Wins start with three matching symbols across adjacent reels on one of the paylines. The lower value symbols are the usual playing card suits, designed to look as if they have been carved from slabs of stone, or possibly lava. The first is the Hyper Spins feature. This activates after every win and grants one respin, but that's not all. During the respin, the centre two reels merge into one Hyper reel featuring symbols of 2x2. Every win you hit on a respin gives you another, as well as further merging reels. Three wins in a row, and you'll be playing with 4x4 cluster symbols, and this is when the second feature, the Hyper Burst kicks in.

This brings multipliers into play. Your first win in this mode will be multiplied by 2. Each subsequent win will increase the multiplier by 2 all the way up to x 10. You can keep track of your multiplier level in the metre to the left of the reels. This feature will continue as long as you keep landing wins. The reels change back to the base game set up on the first loss.

Some players might be disappointed initially by the lack of a free spins round, but the Hyper spins that kick in after every win more than make up for this omission. Overall, this is a solid game by Yggdrasil, with enough on offer to keep the gameplay interesting, as well as offering some good winning potential.
